We have missed you all so much and are thrilled to announce our Winter Session of IN-PERSON classes in Theater, Dance, Art, Music and more! Classes will take place INDOORS at our wonderful new ANNEX LOCATION at the Middletown Reformed Church! (121 Kings highway - right around the corner from the MAC!)

Our amazing instructors and staff will follow CDC guidelines and practice social distancing, small classes and take temperatures.

*All students will be required to wear masks and observe social distance guidelines.

January 22 – February 26 | Fridays: 4:00 – 5:00pm (6 weeks)

Students will have a blast and build confidence exploring theater games, storytelling, improv & more! Under the nurturing instruction of NJ performer and Teaching Artist, Felicia Russell (a proud MAC alum!), students will learn the fundamentals of acting technique and theater in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Students will also get guest instruction from award-winning Director and Teaching Artist, Kathy Connolly, to work on monologues and scenes and even collaborate to create new short pieces together!

NEW! Beginning/Intermediate Tap with Shannon Garahan | Ages 12+ [4 remaining]
January 20 – February 24 | Wednesdays: 4:00 – 5:00pm (6 weeks)

A highly energetic class in the timeless art that combines dance and percussion. Under the skilled instruction of NYC/NJ performer and choreographer, Shannon Garahan, beginning and intermediate students will have a blast while learning and improving foundational rhythms and classic combinations, in a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm and Contemporary Tap. Develop coordination, speed, clarity, dynamics, and the ability to execute complex rhythmic combinations. Since graduating from Centerstage Dance and Theatre School after High School, Shannon has been performing, training, and choreographing throughout NJ and New York City.

NEW! Hip Hop Freestyle with Chontelle Gladys | Ages: 10+ [3 remaining]
January 20 – March 3 | Wednesdays: 5:15 – 6:15pm (7 weeks)

Not only do hip hop choreographers want to see how quickly you can learn choreography, but how well you are able to improvise in case of “technical difficulties” on stage. 95% of academy dancers do NOT know how to freestyle because they were only taught how to follow. Instructor Chontelle Gladys has trained with pros who are now back-up dancers for Missy Elliot, Beyonce, Teyana Taylor, Janet Jackson, and Eric Nam to name a few. In this class will learn basic grooves in the 1st half of each class, that will then be used in the 2nd half of the class to Freestyle. This class is really going to help many of you get out of your comfort zone and dance “Free”.

This fun and engaging class was specially designed for younger beginning dancers, ages 3-6. Under the caring, expert instruction of Felicia Catney, students will be introduced to the fundamental building blocks of rhythm and musicality and learn elementary ballet skills, weight shifting, and imaginative movements. Felicia received her BA in Dance Performance at Rider University where she graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors. She has choreographed extensively in New York and New Jersey and is very excited to share her love of dance, performing, choreographing and teaching with the students at Middletown Arts Center!

As a dancer, most just learn dance moves from a choreography or from watching another person. That is okay, but if you want to master that move, you need to learn the history and original form of how that move came to be. Instructor Chontelle Gladys has trained with pros who are now back-up dancers for Missy Elliot, Beyonce, Teyana Taylor, Janet Jackson, and Eric Nam to name a few. This class is set to master those basic grooves, and then teach you how to make that move your own. We call it a “Vocabulary” Class, or Foundation Class.
